Neutral Colors is the independent magazine of the Japanese design studio and riso printer of the same name run by Katoh Naonori. The magazine stands out because of its mix of offset and risograph printing.
“Stay”, the theme of the magazine’s sixth issue, is not meant in the sense of visiting as a tourist or relocating somewhere permanently. It is about the stillness that emerges when you stay in one place for a certain period of time, and about the unexpected relationships that form with the people beside you. Ranging in geography from Nagoya, Yamagata, and Saigon to Amsterdam, Dubai, and Oaxaca, it explores staying in a variety of locations and contexts. A special feature on artist and film-maker Derek Jarman (1942–1994) is also included. ‘Neutral Colors’ is an independent Japanese publication featuring vibrant offset and Risograph printing combined with a saddle-stitched binding.
