Express Type: 8000 Type Specimen

8000 is the debut typeface of Express Type, the Bern-based type foundry founded in 2025 by Tobias Bolliger and Basil Linder. Rooted in the club aesthetics and rave culture of the 1990s, the typeface is modular, loud, and fast — a typographic echo of the techno music that inspired it.

This specimen goes beyond a functional type presentation. Through archival flyer material, research into the visual culture of the techno scene, and an essay by music journalist Benedikt Sartorius, it tells the story of a design era — and of Roggwil BE, the small Bernese village that became a legendary destination for European mega-raves.
